Ocean Reef is a suburb located in northern Greater Perth. Ocean Reef is 28 kilometres from Perth. Situated in the City of Joondalup local government area, the suburb is surrounded by Iluka, Connolly, Heathbridge, Beldon, and Mullaloo. The total population is over 8000.
Once known as Beaumaris, the suburb officially adopted its present name by 1971. Ocean Reef derives its name from the line of coastal reefs that define the suburb. Hodges Drive divides the suburb into north and south. As development first started in the southern area, this part is called the Old Ocean Reef. A boat harbour marks the western end of Hodges Drive. Given its proximity to the Indian Ocean, the suburb boasts of famous ship harbours. Hillarys Boat Harbour and the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour serve as rams for launching boats and facilitate fishing activities.Since 2009, Ocean Reef and the City of Joondalup have experienced rapid development. Joondalup Station is the nearest train station to Ocean Roof. The station is served by the Transperth Joondalup line. However, there is no direct train route connecting Ocean Reef to Perth. Commuters can get on the bus line 462 from Ocean Reef and get to the Joondalup Station Stand.
From the stand, one can walk to Joondalup Station Platform One. An alternate route to getting to the train station is via the Transperth bus line from Ocean Reef to Whitfords Station Stand Six. The Transperth train line runs through Whitfords Station Platform One to Perth. The airport closest to Ocean Reef is the Perth International Airport.
